Arrow / Cursor Keys: ALL of them! ▲▼◄ ► ↑ ↓ ← →
I really wonder: why doesn’t anyone of the keyboard app producers implement a full set of arrow keys? I can’t believe I’m the only person in the world who misses this.
Please PadKeys, be the first app to implement arrow keys!
They even could be all four side by side. There’s space enough in the bottom row to do it.
Thanks a lot in the name of all users!
22 votesAs mentioned in the comments, we are unable to provide this functionality at the moment due to iOS limitations. We encourage interested parties to send feedback to Apple on this matter.

Need to add mic for dictation
Need to add the microphone for dictation.
14 votesSince iOS 10 the dictation microphone IS available on X series iPhones. On other devices, Apple provides no clean way to implement it. The only third-party keyboard currently doing it is Gboard, which does so in a hacky way by opening up its own app behind the scenes. We tried this but were unable to get it working reliably.
If Apple makes API improvements in a future version of iOS we will re-open this issue.

Change US (& AU/NZ) Keyboard Layout
Could you please relocate the "\" key on the English (US) Keyboard Layout (and also AU/NZ Layouts -- which also uses the US Keyboard Layout)?
The result will look closer to Apple's US Keyboard Layout.
9 votesThank you for the suggestion and detailed mockups. The backslash IS in a non-standard position, but we are hesitant to make a heavily-used key (backspace) smaller in order to standardize the location of a key many users will never touch.

Long press for secondary keys
The black keys i.e. number row and symbols could have a long press entering the alternate symbol instead of needing to press shift
6 votesThis would conflict with the popup key menus some of these show. We now have swipe access the shifted versions similarly to the system keyboard in iOS 11.

Speed it up!
The swype function is WAY too slow. Coming from android too ios, it can't seem too keep up during regular speed swiping. Disappointing.
4 votesClosing, not enough information given to understand whether there is a problem and what it might be.

Supporting Keyboard Types
iOS supports several keyboard types (default, email, url, phone)*. Webviews can set the type of the keyboard.
This support-page sets the type "email" for the field for the emails. The Apple keyboard respects this setting (see first picture). padkey doesn't respect this setting (see second picture).
3 votesThank you for your thoughts. There are two parts to “respecting” the setting shown in the screenshots: switching layout to put ‘@’ prominently on the first screen, and showing email addresses in the completion area. We will think about how we might do this second one.
As far as the first, the overall philosophy of PadKeys is to not be switching layouts continually to adapt to the situation, with the side effect that the user must adapt as well. :-} Instead, we make all keys accessible in standard places at all times so your fingers can use their memories from regular laptop and desktop keyboards, and you can spend less of your brain space on key layouts. :-)
Note, we aren’t here to force this down anyone’s throats. If you don’t use regular computer keyboards frequently or find you’d rather have adaptive phone-style keyboards on your iPad, there are other…

Function key support
Add Function keys
3 votesUnfortunately iOS doesn’t provide us with any way to implement these. We have requested it from Apple and if anything changes we’ll reopen this issue.

Button or Settings Option that Hides Number Row
For me, padkeys is all about saving screen space. Please add an option for hiding the number row, which is lovely to have when I need it, annoying when I don't. In this mode, pressing shift would activate a similar layout for numbers and punctuation as the ios default keyboard.
3 votesWe have “short mode” which frees up even more space than this would: https://youtu.be/F_Z1gVPSM4Q
While a hidden number row would provide an alternative way to save screen space, this plus the separate number/punctuation layout is so similar to what the system keyboard already provides that it would be better simply to use that.

gain space for 2 more keys
by making
back-delete smaller (keeping only upper horizontal part)
making hide-keyboard key a bit smaller plus utilizing free space (space btw keys should be the same everywhere)3 votesAlthough the extra space on the bottom row looks a bit odd, we feel it’s important to have it to prevent errors with those keys. It can be quite a pain if you accidentally switch keyboards when trying to hit ‘Opt’ or space, for example.
As far as the backspace key, it is frequently used and it can be nice to have a bigger target to aim for.
That said, we continue to consider changes like this depending on how many people are in favor of them.

Consistent globe key with the default keyboard
I found two inconsistencies with the globe key on iPad which break my muscle memory.
On my iPad mini's default keyboard, the globe key is on the very left, while on Typefinity, the leftmost key is the option key. Is it possible to have an option to swap option and globe keys?
Next, there is a second inconsistency: with the standard keyboard, dragging on the globe key opens up a list of all the keyboard layouts, but with Typefinity, it opens the Typefinity settings. It would be great if it was possible to change this behavior to match with the…
3 votesApple has switched the position of the Globe and Option keys several times in successive iOS versions and can't really seem to make up their minds. Typefinity as other third party keyboards is sticking with the leftmost key being "switch to alternate layout" (option in our case, 123?-ABC in others). That key is used more often than switching keyboards so is in a place where it's easier to hit, leaving the Globe where it's less easy to hit accidentally.
As far as the popups, we would like to be able to display the list of keyboards, however it's more important to have a place for accessing Settings, Help, language swap, etc.. Using the option key for an additional popup would be possible but would be an even more serious deviation from expected user experience to the point that Apple may not allow it in App Store review.

Command Key for Copy / Paste / Select All
Command Key for Copy / Paste / Select All ~ similar to external keyboards (if possible)
3 votesWe had planned this functionality orginally. Unfortunately, iOS does not allow third-party keyboards to access the selection. So the only function we could implement would be Paste, and that only when full access is enabled. This isn’t worth the space for the extra key. (Paste is available on our shortcut bar.)

please add voice dictation
I use the voice dictation option a lot on my iPad keyboard. I like your keyboard better in all other ways but still have to switch back to iPad because of this.
3 votesHi, we wish we could provide this but unfortunately iOS allows us no way to do so. For now, no third party keyboard has access to dictation functionality. All we can suggest is to contact Apple, for example at http://www.apple.com/feedback/ipad.html , and let them know it is something you’d like to see.

Hide the keyboard manually
Any iPad onscreen keyboard pops up, whenever ios thinks that it is necessary. But often I only want to mark and copy or paste text. But this force popup reduces my screen. So a nice feature may be, if the hide button has an alternate function, to reduce the keyboard just down to at last one key to get it back manually.
2 votesWe implemented “short mode”: in landscape mode you may long-press the keyboard-away key to get a much shorter keyboard, which leaves much more room to see the app itself.

caps lock functionality for the options key
Please make it so that if I double-tap the Options key, it switches me over to the options keyboard until the next time that I tap the Options key.
2 votesThe internal logic for handling the double-tap keys is complex, particularly when multiple ones are involved. We would need to hear convincing use cases and/or substantial user support, before undertaking this change.

Select text with SHIFT + Left/Right Cursor
This would be a fast and accurate way to select text without having to mess about tapping on the text you want.
2 votesWe’d love to do this, but unfortunately Apple provides no way for a third-party keyboard to influence the selection. Not even in iOS 10. We have sent in requests for them to provide this kind of functionality, but it seems not to even be on their radar screen.

Microphone support
I dictate a lot of my email and messages. I would not have purchased this app had I known there was no microphone support. What an oversight! I bet your sells would increase and your reqests for refunds would increase significantly by adding microphone support. Ron Jones
2 votesWe agree with you, and really wish Apple would provide an API for third-party keyboards to trigger dictation functionality. However, they do not, even though they easily could do it without providing access the microphone itself which could be a security concern. Please see:
http://support.padkeys.com/knowledgebase/articles/1087564
Please let Apple know this is functionality you’d like to see.

Having these “extra” keys is the whole purpose of PadKeys. And we don’t want to overload with options. We do make the ‘A’ key slightly wider to make it easier to hit.

Dictation microphone
Insert a dictation icon that would revert to the Apple keyboard microphone. It would work similar to what happens with passwords.
2 votesWe are closing this, Apple has added this support for iPhone X family devices in iOS 12, and, given their demonstrated attitudes, that is the most we will get.

Auto scroll
When you select an area to type into the screen should automatically scroll up so the keyboard doesn't block the view of what you are typing. This is the only benefit of the original apple keyboard.
2 votesHello,
Unfortunately (and I’m starting to feel like I’m a broken record here), this is due to a problem in iOS’s handling of third-party keyboards. We’ve personally reported this bug to them months ago, and I assume others have as well. We hope they will fix it soon but are not holding our breaths at this point.
I apologize for the inconvenience, I know it is annoying, but hopefully not enough to put you off using PadKeys altogether.
thanks,

Add the ability to remove words added to the dictionary
I just downloaded this yesterday, and I already have 'walkwd' as a permanent word in my dictionary. It would be great to be able to remove that word instead of having it show up each time I need to walk somewhere. Please add the ability to remove words from the autocorrect dictionary.
2 votesPadKeys learns words when they occur inside sentences (so it knows if it should be capitalized or not), but words learned and not used again (e.g., because added accidentally) will be shown lower and lower in the list and eventually be removed from the dictionary automatically. There is no need to manually manage any of this yourself.
