_Holding_ down Shift to turn Backspace into Forward Delete
A suggestion is that while the the Shift key (and/or the Option key), (as opposed to a regular press, or Shift-lock/Option-lock), it turns the backspace into a Forward Delete.
This would be a subtle change, and its presence might be highlighted to users by highlighting the Delete key in a slightly different colour when Shift/Option is pressed.
Mainly needed on phone. Why only when Shift held down, and not just whenever Shift is activated? (And I don’t mean during CAPS lock, which is NOT Shift lock.)

Any news on this one?

Actually having it forward delete when Shift (but not Caps Lock) is activated is probably a great idea!
I think the reason why I suggested holding down Shift was that often one needs to forwards-delete several characters, and I may have been thinking it's easier to hold it down than alternating between Shift and Delete five times to delete five characters. But go for it. Either just pressing Shift or holding it down could enable Forward-delete.
