1. Press and hold with no up move should generate uppercase of the letter

   I need a gesture method to get uppercase letters, especially since Apple text replacement doesn't seem to be compatible with typefinity. I don't want to use the shift key. You already have press-and-hold -- just make uppercase the default, that is, generate the uppercase when user does press-and-hold with no substantial upward movement.

   We'll consider this, depending on votes an interest. We would still need to make sure there was a "way out" if you just want to examine the menu and type nothing.

2. Cap locks not working in IOS 17.4.1 and previos IOS too

   Auto capitalization at the beginning of a sentence is no longer functional in Typefinity on an iPhone 12 Pro Max running iOS 1 7.4.1. Auto capitalization was also not functional in the free iOS. If there's a trick to it, you better post it.

3. Have question mark available by holding down period key

   This appears to be the only shaded key that does not behave this way. Holding down the period key gives only options for .com .org. and .us and not for a question mark.

5. Emoji key, option to remove arrows next to space bar

   This keyboard is great, but can you just add a convenient emoji button, and an option to disable the arrows on either side of the space bar? Those are unnecessary when you can just hold on the space bar and drag.

6. Can you implement a Linebreak (New Line) character, perhaps with Alt-Return?

   As a musician, I frequently edit song lyrics.
   I use New Paragraph (Return key) to separate the verses, chorus and so on from each other, while I use Linebreaks (Shift-Return or Alt-Return on my Mac, depending on the program) to separate lines within a given verse or chorus. 
   As far as I know, there is no App-independent way to achieve this on the iPad. Pages has a menu command for this, but neither Apple Notes nor Craft have.
   I would greatly appreciate a way to insert a Linebreak character by hitting alt-Return in Typefinity!

7. Caps lock should also lock special characters in the row of digits

   I'm using Padkeys v4.7.5 on my iPad Pro 12.9 inch with iOS 16. I noticed that when I activate caps-lock by double-tapping on the Shift key, after the second tap the row with digits comes back.

   I often need to type multiple asterisk characters or plus signs in a row. With the current behavior, I need to always keep pressing Shift once again.

   Why not simply lock in the special characters together with the uppercase letters? I mean, in the real world, who is typing all-caps and then needs quick access to numbers on top of that?

   However, coders or others who use the Markup language would appreciate being able to do the triple-asterisk or the double-asterisk more easily. Teenager-types who like to emphasize stuff [like so!!!!] would be happy, too. But simple regular users who like to separate topics in a mail with three plus signs in a row, or people who like to make some sort of a quick "arrow" by typing two >> or even three of those >>> would benefit from such behavior.

   The fact is, that with Apple's keyboard, all of the above can be accomplished by hitting the numbers key, bottom left. However, that keyboard is too crammed IMO, hence my choice to use yours.

   Could you update this in a future version?

   Hi, thanks for your suggestion. The current behavior was designed to make typing alphanumeric codes easier. For example airline booking references like 2JXY95, or car license plate numbers. We even reverse the caps-lock behavior in the French keyboard layout (where you have to hit shift to get numbers). 

   
   

   If we made the change you suggest, then you would not need to hold shift while typing + or > three times, but then these other cases would become harder. So it really depends which need is occurring more often in the real world. Other thoughts are welcome, thanks!

8. Best suggestion ever: ADD OPTION TO TYPE ON iPHONE WHILE WRITING ON IPAD

   The typing on iPad is hard because the keyboard take half the screen space. A perfect feature for Typefinity would be to be able to receive input from other devices, like using an iPhone to type and see the text being written on iPad. You need to do the following:
   1 - allow to install the Typefinity keyboard on both iPhone and iPad with the same login
   2 - allow the keyboard to connect via wifi to any other typefinity keyboard running on other devices with the same user logged in.
   3 - allow to open the keyboard on ipad or iphone, but set it in 'remote mode'. In this mode the keyboard does not occupy more than just one line of space at the bottom, with just the essential buttons to switch keyboard or exit remote mode. The screen above will be fully visible so people can write more easily.
   4 - on the other device add the option to use the keyboard in the configuration app (no need to open the keyboard in other apps), and activating a connect to remote device listing automatically all devices with the same user logged in in the wifi lan. Once you choose the receiving device, the keyboard will be sending its input to the other keyboard on the other device.
   5 - add option to remember frequent pairings for easy setup. For example iPhone keyboard remotely writing on iPad keyboard.
   6 - Do not limit the devices types. For example An iPad Mini can be used as remote keyboard to write to a receiving keyboard on an iPad Pro. Just remember to keep and use the keyboard configuration data for the remote mode in addition to the normal configuration data, one config for each target device, and automtically switch to it when the remote mode is activated. The local configuration can be very different since you are writing on another device that uses differeent apps!
   7 - This way old apple mobile devices now too slow to do anything good can be recycled as touch keyboards.
   8 - Wifi should be fast enough to type in sync, but if it is too slow you can use bluetooth like the wireless keyboards.
   9 - Enjoy a touch screen wireless keyboard without buying a physical wireless keyboard.

9. Duplication of dictated text

   I use Typefinity on an iPhone 13 Pro. I also have voice control turned off. When I have the Typefinity keyboard selected and use dictation, I have an issue with duplication of the spoken text. It happens a third to half of the time when I dictate. It appears to be a buffer issue, as duplication most often happens if I dictate and then type while the microphone is active, or allow the microphone function to time out. Duplication also can happen if I dictate a text message and hit send while the microphone is active. If I type while the microphone is active and get duplication, the added text appears where the cursor was when I began typing, and it is a duplicate of the captured speech. When I have tried typing with the microphone active in the native keyboard I have not had a duplication issue.

10. A different keyboard layout proposal

    I've been looking for a 3rd party keyboard that gives me a 4th row of numbers and for which I do NOT have to give full access to in the iPhone's settings. My primary use case is for an iPhone 13 mini in portrait orientation using the English language.

    In my every day typing I found several things in Typefinity to be lacking. Typical English text makes heavy use of the question mark, apostrophe, and hyphen (which is also used for negative numbers) but none of these characters are too convenient on Typefinity. You could argue that the hyphen and question mark are available, but I found the swipe-up gesture on those keys to be quite problematic. Additionally, the number row I was strongly after had tiny buttons (both in height and width) and having to swipe up on such a small target was an additional level of pain.

    I also found the low usage Settings key (with the gear icon) to be an inefficient use of precious space and I also found the < and > navigation keys to be somewhat useful, but just not worth the precious two key spaces they consume. Those two navigation functions can be redundantly achieved by long pressing the spacebar and dragging to move the cursor, or you could just touch and drag on the text you are typing. I also found that when repeatedly tapping the < or > keys my finger drifted position a little and I ended up hitting spacebar or carriage return keys etc. For just a couple left/right cursor movements you could perhaps implement a swipe left/right on the spacebar.

    To solve these issues, I started tweaking the keyboard layout using screenshots and a primitive drawing package on my Mac - I'm not artist, and most of this was just selecting graphics from various screenshots and pasting them elsewhere. My understanding is that you can't tweak the area at the bottom containing the globe and microphone icons because Apple doesn't allow it.

    Anyway, I have attached a screenshot of the graphics I've been working on and hope it kicks off a discussion.

    Couple random points before I conclude:
    - I don't see an easy way to select the emojis like on Apple's keyboard. Is there a way to get easier access to that (maybe as an option when long-pressing the option key or maybe swiping down instead of up on the option key?)
    - On the original Typefinity keyboard I noticed the width of the keys on the middle "asdf..." row to be a bit wider than the others.
    - Finding Typefinity in the App Store is almost impossible unless you search for the exact word "Typefinity". I stumbled across this app by accident in reading another article...

11. New Option Layout in Typefinity 2.0 - feedback

    In Typefinity 2.0, released May 2, 2022, we've tackled a longstanding challenge and reworked the opt layout. Screenshots are attached, and you can read about the motivation and design goals here in our blog post:

12. Improve Romanian layout and swipe on iPhone

    Swiping from a letter to hyphen and back to letter to introduce the hyphen in the middle of the word. Romanian language is formed by many words like this.

    I also suggest to eliminate the space between letters, there is need for these and integrate letters like ă, â, î, ș, in the Romanian keyboard. It's time consuming for a faster typing to press always the symbol button to pop-up these letters. These letters can be changed with the following punctuation marks: [, ', /.

    I attached a screen shot from swype keyboard designed by Nuance where I found the perfect configuration.

    Currently on the iPhone Romanian layout the keys you mention are available by tapping opt. Is this not convenient, or are they not in the places you expect? (Asking because we are getting ready to modify that layout in the Typefinity 2.x series.)

    
    

    We do sacrifice some letter space for punctuation keys on the main layout, including ? and !.

Just 4 or 5 keys would be helpful. Just count the frequency of usage of those special characters and put the most used there. (example: «»…“” when writing dialogs, or {} when programming).

    Hello, what device and orientation are you typically using? (Reason I ask, there is a lot more horizontal room for such things on an iPad in landscape mode than a phone in portrait mode, but on the other hand more vertical space is available in the latter case.)

15. Better have Number key expansion characters Above instead of below number keys row ?

    My iPhone.SE.2020 is usually in Portrait orientation – so that's where I use TypeFinity.
    Now wouldn't Typefinity be even more user friendly to some of us if we [optionally] had the "Expansion" popup row from Number keys (top row above the main kbd) displayed on a higher line above the Numbers row, instead of having the expanded options on_a ~lower screen line, because the current ~lower~ arrangement has my hand unfortunately ~covering~ the popped up ~lower~ line of options (while I taphold the expanding Number key in the first place).

16. Possible adding Norwegian-nynorsk as language?

    Only last week got aware of Your Brilliant Typefininty Keyboard. It made my week!
    Suppose You didn't invent the "Norwegian Bokmål" dictionary, which is included, yourselves, .
    My iPad has "Norwegian Nynorsk" (which is a second norwegian national approved variant) available.
    Nynorsk makes my days better.
    Is it possible for the exquisite Typefinity-keyboard to use the "Norwegain Nynorsk" glossary?

    We are open to adding this. However we don’t currently have a source for Nynorsk word frequency data which is what we would need to implement it. Suggestions are welcome.

17. Hide character preview

    Please add a setting to hide the character oreview pop up when a key is pressed. The system keyboard has this option and your iPad keyboard also doesn't show the preview.

19. PadKeys crash with SIGQUIT

    Since I installed iPadOS 13, PadKeys has crashed randomly with SIGQUIT. This apparently means that it has attempted an action the system does not like. This has continued with iPadOS 14. This doesn't seem to have any consequences, but is certainly incorrect behavior. I've attached a typical log, and my log of all the events I've observed. These events do not seem to be coordinated with the jetsam events. I have saved all the logs, and could provide them if desired.

20. Remove incorrect auto correct words

    Often when typing quickly I will create a new jumble of letters that isn't a word, but is similar to a word that the keyboard remembers forever. This means that this fake word is now part of suggestions for real words and gets in the way. Currently there is no way to remove these fake words from suggestions, I'd like to be able to do this please. Thank you.
